What I Have Learned About Myself as a Writer This Year
This year, I have learned that I am a much better writer when I am interested in the topic I am writing in. This pattern can be seen in all of my major papers this year. For example, my literary analysis was my worst piece of writing. I did not enjoy writing further about Lord of The Flies, a topic I felt had been exhausted in my brain. On the other hand, my favorite and best piece of writing was my personal narrative. I picked a topic that I found incredibly interesting for my personal narrative. I wrote about my hunting camp. The research paper fell somewhere in the middle, further towards the better side. This is also because I enjoyed my topic despite the rigorous research.
I believe I have overall improved my fluency this year as a writer. I am very quick with a pen now. I can look at a prompt and get to writing quick and get what I consider to be a solid work on paper. This has been a very useful tool for writing outside of English. In my AP World History class, I have been able to not worry as much about finishing essays in the allotted time. I credit this to writing strategies I have learned this year. This includes pre-writing, outlining, and overall brainstorming techniques.
