Portrait as a Writer
I am a writer who doesn't do much preparation. I just start writing. My quickness of getting things down on paper has helped me many times in my academic career. An example of my fluency working to my advantage is when I used to take the WRAP test in middle school. A more current example is when it comes to writing essays for AP World History. The essays are time sensitive, so it is very useful for me to be able to write fast and while I am thinking.
My tendency to just start writing also has hurt me before. At times I will start writing and realize that I did not portray the message I had intended to. Sometimes I wish I would have spent some more time writing my outline. Sometimes I am better off waiting a second rather than just diving right in and starting the whole process. Waiting a second before you do something does not just apply to writing, but it applies to life as well. I am a person who likes to jump into situations, but I have learned that sometimes patience is the key to success.
